Catullan
Physiology
Catullans are humanoids characterized by pale to warm gold skin tones and hair color ranging from a near-snowy-white to vibrant lavender and pastels. They tend toward slim, compact bodies and are somewhat stronger than human standard due to slightly higher-than-M-class-normal gravity on Catulla. Their endurance and cold tolerance are also above human norm, though they are more sensitive to heat. As descendants of people who survived a nuclear war, they are somewhat more resistance to radiation. They also have the ability to perform a nerve block similar to a Vulcan nerve pinch, but it involved pressing the thumbs against the sides of the victim's neck below the ears.
Culture
Catullan culture is vibrant, flamboyant even by some standards, with an emphasis on creative expression. An attraction to the new and innovative extends beyond the arts to nearly every aspect of life. Which does not mean their past isn't honored; indeed many Catullans value history, both familial and societal, so many still adopt the ancient custom of decorating their foreheads with designs signifying their tribe or region or social affiliation.
Despite a bit of a reputation as 'space hippies' due to this cultural devotion to art and innovation, Catullan culture encourages a balance between reason and passion. Indeed, they are noted starship engineers and many successful design yards are based out of the Catullan system. The well-known Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems was co-founded by Terrans and Catullans and the continent of Tesakar was home to the Harrell Hullworks, one of the Federation's leading manufacturers of warp-capable spacecraft hulls. Harrell also maintained a construction facility in geosynchronous orbit directly above its planet-side facilities.
History
Their homeworld, Catulla (known in old dialect as Cando-Prae) is the sixth planet in the Theta Pictoris system. It was similar mass to Earth and had two moons, Milon and Milar. In their distant past the Catullans fought a massive nuclear war which wiped out most of their knowledge and culture. They struggled for centuries to rebuild their civilization and become a technological society again, but by the mid-24th century a huge industrial network covered the planet.
Catulla was one of five planets visited by the Enterprise NX-01 during a mission in 2270 and by 2269 they had applied for Federation membership and joined the Federation before the end of the 23rd century.
