Auto-Modulating Shields (Deflector Based)
With the return of the Voyager in 2378 to the Alpha Quadrant, Starfleet was given a wealth of information on a bunch of new technologies the traveling crew from the Delta Quadrant and the now proven Delta Flyer class runabout. In comparison to the now aging Danube runabout and the proven shortcomings that had developed throughout its use on the fringes of the Federation as well as its relatively slow speed, Starfleet began development of a new runabout.
Taking design cues from the Delta Flyer and the modularity of the Danube runabout, the designers at Utopia Planetia came up with several ideas for new ships. The Arrow class Runabout was the culmination of 3 years of work and several failed prototypes. Larger than the Danube with a more aerodynamic design similar to the Delta Flyer, the Arrow entered limited production for a testing phase in 2381. Following 2 years of testing In the major Federation systems and some testing at the southern border, the Arrow class was approved for widespread usage and production was increased to full run volumes in 2384. Ever so slowly the Arrow Class has been increasingly seen in Federation Territory taking the place of the traditional Danube runabout.
